Sharing foods among people is an almost universal experience this time of year. Hence, I am going to talk about one of my favorite foods the avocado. Not only do I like sharing foods but also I like exploring foods.
As you read along keep in mind, I enjoy the same sense of adventure when meeting new people. Also, if you have an explorer in you I want to hear about your adventures.
I remember the very first time an avocado came into my hands. It may sound a bit strange but I thought it was quite exotic looking. Certainly not like anything we grew in the garden out back in our yard in Colorado.
In my early teens my mother took a job as a clerk in a local grocery store. She would bring home foods I had never before seen. The job of putting the groceries away was an adventure. As I reached into the bottom of the paper bag and pulled out the dark green egg shaped item, I took a close look at it. I felt it in my hand. It was rather dense and heavy feeling for the size. The skin was rough and there was no scent. I cut into it, scooped it out and put a small piece into my mouth. It was light smooth and buttery tasting.
Sometimes, I experience people in a similar fashion as I look at the outer covering and wonder about the inner person. It is an adventure to meet and learn about people. Additionally, I continue to learn about myself. We are never completely known not even to ourselves. To learn more about the unknown self read about the Johari window post on Bite Size Idea written by Damien Olenslager and let me know your thoughts.
