What can you do to help another who is saying hurtful things about themselves? Better yet, what can you do when you are engaged in negative self-talk? You can offer up a plate of kind caring compassion. You can show you are concerned. We all suffer and experience pain from our imperfect human condition. Make the effort to understand your humanness.
The idea being described here is to acknowledge your tendency to be harsh on yourself and still find a path to be kind to yourself. Holding both feelings at the same time may sound challenging. With gentleness ease into holding both feelings at the same time. Notice what happens. According to Kristen Neff, Ph. D., compassion creates safety for our self by using mindfulness, kindness and acceptance. You can take Neff’s Self-Compassion assessment test by clicking here.
